Top Stocking Stuffers for Horse Lovers 2007

By Katherine Blocksdorf, About.com

Good things come in small packages--and what could be better than a stocking stuffed full of great things for a horse lover.

1. Breyer Stablemates

My mother still has many of the 1:32 scale Stablemates Breyer models my sister and I had as kids. (That should make them almost antiques). Way back then we made our own tack out of fabric scraps and leather lacing. Now you'll find enough accessories to fill a stocking to overflowing.

2. Cowgirl Chocolates

I'll admit I am not a chocolate fan. While others rave about the melt in your mouth flavor of their favorite treat, I just wonder what all the fuss is about. But I still have a sweet tooth--in fact a whole mouth full of them. That's why when I visited the Cowgirl Chocolates site the Caramel Sauce caught my attention. Hot and spicy caramel sauce? I hope Santa puts a jar of this in my stocking, so I can find out what it's all about. And if you are a chocoholic, you'll find lots of goodies with a dash of the old west on this site.

3. Stablemasters Tycoon

If I let my daughter know about this game I'll probably never get near the computer again. Own, train, manage, buy and sell at auction, and race your own virtual Thoroughbreds. Epinions.com rates this game four out of five stars.

4. Wine Charms

Wine charms are a fun way to make sure you aren't using someone else's glass at a party. In fact they're practically a necessity. Here are six horse themed charms that include a galloping horse, horseshoe with horse head, Western hat and boot, English saddle and an standing horse. Each charm is complemented by antiqued metal and Czech fire polished glass beads.

5. Elmer Horse Ceiling Fan Pull

Fan pulls are similar to tree ornaments of course, but I couldn't resist including Elmer in my list. Elmer is made of hand painted resin. His chain is ready to snap onto the chain of your ceiling fan or light fixture. Elmer looks to be a patient soul ready to go to work when needed.

6. Zocks Pattern Boot Socks

My daughter has been coveting a pair of these funky socks since seeing other riders wear them at horse shows. Similar, but studier than a pair of knee high nylon stockings, these socks make it easier to slide in and out of tall boots. They come in a selection of wild colors and patterns.

7. Digital Thermometer

This is a bit practical, but it is a must for every horse owners first aid kit. A digital readout is easier to read and the timer makes it easier to know you've taken the temperature for the correct length of time.

8. Christmas Tree Ornaments - Penguin Express

Who would have thought to combine horses and penguins? Penguin Express is just one ornament from a collection of figurines based on the Trail of the Painted Ponies. Whether you have to fill the stocking of a collector or a horse lover, a Painted Pony ornament will be welcomed.

9. Eye Glass Holder

There was a time I'd probably be insulted if someone gave me one of these. But, alas, I do lose my glasses a little too often. And this resin horse head eye glass holder looks attractive enough that no one would know what it was when your glasses weren't sitting there.

10. My Kingdom for a Horse! Bookmark

If there's anywhere I'd rather be than riding my horse, it's in a comfy chair with my nose stuck in a book (preferably with a spoon and a jar of caramel sauce along side). Tuck this steel and gross grain ribbon bookmark in someone's stocking so they can mark their place when 'real life' calls.
